About TruNorth Church

TruNorth Church: Life Is Better Together

At TruNorth Church, we are committed to being a place where all individuals are welcomed, valued, and loved. We believe that every person is created in the image of God and deserves to be treated with dignity, kindness, and respect, regardless of their background or life experiences.

What We Believe

About the Scriptures:
We believe the scriptures of both the Old and New Testaments are the inspired word of God. We believe the Holy Spirit guided and directed human authors to create God’s written means of communication with us, which reveals God’s love and plan to be in relationship with all of humanity. The Bible is God’s blueprint for living the Christian life and is our source for faith and practice.

About God:
We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to humanity and to become the Savior of the lost world.

About Humanity:
We believe that all people were created in the image of God to have fellowship with him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own efforts.

About Salvation:
We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin.

About the Christian Life:
We believe all Christians should live for Christ and not for themselves. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Christ.

About the Church:
We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving him and by making him known to the lost world.

Our Vision

  • Recognizing the gravitational pull for all churches is always toward insiders, we are committed to focusing on people we are trying to reach (outsiders) rather than the reached (insiders).
  • We believe church should be the safest place on earth for everyone to talk about anything.
  • We manage the tension between truth and grace. Jesus was the fullness of, not the balance of, grace and truth. As a result...
    • We distinguish between theology and ministry-between what we believe and how we behave based on what we believe.
    • We prefer to be known by what we are for, not what or whom we’re against.
    • We emphasize having conversations over creating policies.

A really, really great church

Every Christian should desire to be part of a really, really great church. What would that look like?

  • A great church leads people to follow Jesus
  • A great church should be outward-facing, reaching those outside the church
  • A great church should prioritize the next generation
  • A great church has engaging and informative worship services
  • A great church has a strong children’s ministry
  • A great church has very active middle school and high school ministries
  • A great church is focused on small groups
  • A great church doesn’t prioritize politics over mission
  • A great church does not need an enemy in order to further it's agenda
  • A great church does not rally around who they hate in common or what they fear in common. One of Jesus most often repeated commands was “do not be afraid” or “fear not”
  • A great church can disagree culturally and politically and still love unconditionally
  • A great church does not make it unnecessarily difficult for those who are turning to God
  • A great church is known more for what and who they are for than what or who they are against
  • A great church is not afraid to talk about sin but also recognizes the grace of Jesus

Here is an over simplified version of what is essential and what isn't:

Essentials: Love God. Love one another. Help people follow Jesus.

Nonessentials: Everything else.
